Bishops Prayer Walk 2013

15th–19th May 2013
Newstead Deanery

“From 15-19 May 2013, I will be ‘prayer walking’ the length and breadth of Newstead Deanery. Every year, I make it a priority to tour one part of the diocese visiting the people who live and work there and praying for each community. I am looking forward to seeing new places, meeting people and having the privilege of praying as I spend time walking around the area. The full programme will take my fellow walkers and I through every corner of the deanery and include stops at local schools, day centres, shops, eating places and heritage sites. Details of the route are in this booklet.

Mission, it is said, is about finding out what God is doing and joining in. I invite you to come along for any stage of the walk and discover what God is doing in your locality and pray for its flourishing.”
Bishop Paul Butler

Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham
‘Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.’
Isaiah 40:31

Please do join us at any point of the Bishop’s Prayer Walk, for as little or as much as you like, in whichever cluster you choose. Cluster details can be found on page 11 of this booklet. You may need to consider where you leave your car and how to get back there or how to return home when you have completed your chosen part of the walk.
Walkers are invited to join the walk at their own risk and must wear appropriate footwear. Bring waterproofs and warm clothing as the walk will go ahead whatever the weather. A named First Aider will be available at every stage of the walk. All information has been produced to the best of the planning team’s knowledge and may be changed due to unforeseen circumstances. Check http://www.facebook.com/SouthwellandNottingham and twitter.com/diocswellnott for up to date information.

Visiting Preachers – Spring 2013

Visiting Preachers

More notes for your diaries!   On several occasions over the next few weeks our Sunday morning worship will be led by a number of visitors:

Sunday, 12th MayRev. Graeme Anderson from St. Mary’s Radcliffe-on-Trent will be exchanging pulpits with Rev. Neil.

Sunday, 19th May (Pentecost)Rt. Rev. Paul Butler, Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, is to lead worship in Kirkby as part of his annual Prayer Walk, this year across the Newstead Deanery.   Full details are not yet finalised, but Bishop Paul will either preside at a joint communion for ourselves and St. Wilfrid’s in St. Thomas’ church, or at a joint open-air service at a venue to be confirmed.  (Since the railway line is the parish boundary, Kirkby Rail Station has been suggested as a venue, with our friends at St. Wilfrid’s on the Northbound platform, St. Thomas’  church family on the Southbound platform and Bishop Paul presiding from the centre of the footbridge, but there could be practical difficulties with this!)

Bishop Paul has also heard about our Curry Club evenings and is keen to pay a midweek visit to Weatherspoons at The Regent.

Watch this space!

Sunday, 9th JuneVen. David Pickens, Archdeacon of Newark will preside at our Family Communion service.
