4. Anniversaries

Throughout its history St Thomas’ has marked special anniversaries .

In 1953 St Thomas’ held celebrations to mark the church’s 50th anniversary.  A Golden jubilee week was held  May 17th-24th with Parish Socials, dances, processions and concerts.

From May 21st-28th 1978 a Festival Week was held to mark the 75th anniversary of the church.  Events during the week included a civic service, coffee mornings,  a reunion buffet, a  ‘Palace of Varieties’ social evening,  organ recitals and an exhibition of local industry.

In 2003 the 100th anniversary was marked by a whole range of events.   These included a Civic Service, a  Festival Eucharist  and a  concert  by Kirkby Light Operatic Society.

A flower festival weekend was held to coincide with the exact anniversary day.  The theme for the event was ‘Fruits of the Spirit’.    The church was decked out with many wonderful displays.  Almost one thousand people visited the church that weekend to join in with the celebrations.  The weekend culminated in a special service and concert with Pye Hill Male Voice Choir who were also celebrating their centenary.
